I have received my notice from the Secretary of State confirming my appointment as a Notary Public for the state of Kentucky. 3. I have obtained an insurance bond as surety. 4. Have you completed the Notary process on the Secretary of States web site?* Yes No To become a Notary Public in the state of Kentucky, you must first apply with the Secretary of State. You can access the Notary Portal through their website at www.sos.ky.gov. As of January 1, 2020, it is now required of a notary applicant to obtain an insurance bond. This process will be further explained on the Secretary of State’s website. After you have completed the process with the Secretary of State, a postcard will be mailed to you instructing that you come to the County Clerk’s office to be sworn in as a notary. Notary appointments are scheduled daily. You will need to bring a valid driver’s license, your original completed notary bond*, and a fee of $19 with you on the day of your appointment. (We can accept cash, check, or debit/credit card. Please be advised that a small fee will apply to the use of a debit/credit card.) *The insurance bond that you obtain for your notary application will often have a place for you to sign as “principal” and another section sometimes referred to as “Oath of Office” that will require you to sign in front of a notary. This MUST be completed before your appointment. The original documentation is required to be submitted at the time of the appointment. However, they will be returned to you at the end of the process.
